Welcome to the August 11, 2010 edition of the Carnival of Cities. Hope you enjoyed the previous edition hosted by Shelia Scarborough on the Why Go Family Travel Guide. We post bi-weekly and highlight almost any aspect of a city or fair-sized town. This edition takes us to New Zealand, Europe, India, Mexico and many American cities. So here we go….
Cities Around the World
Kawakawa, New Zealand : Anne-Sophie Redisch presents Friedensreich Hundertwasser and his Toilet posted at Sophie’s World, saying, “The ahead-of-his-time, eco-friendly Austrian architect lived in New Zealand for 25 years. Before he died in 2000, he left this public toilet as a parting gift to his adopted home town Kawakawa on the North Island.”
Paris, France: Zhu presents Paris By Night posted at Correr Es Mi Destino, saying, “Sunset is around 10:30 pm in France right now and with the summer heat, we had plenty of time and motivation to roam around Paris at night. I have my favorite spots, they are not so original but they are lovely: le Louvre, along the Seine, the Trocadéro, the Eiffel Tower…”
European Beer Capitals: Katie Sorene takes us to Bruges, Prague Dublin, Amsterdam and more with her Top 10 Beer Capitals of Europe posted at Travel Blog – Tripbase, saying, “The best places in Europe to travel to for Beer lovers!”
Pompeii, Italy: Bob Berwyn presents Travel: In the shadow of Vesuvius posted at Summit County Citizens Voice, saying, “Napoli, Italia: Learning from Pompeii that hubris gets us in trouble, that you can’t take it with you, and that Naples has the best pizza — ever!”
Banglore, India: Kristie presents Bangalore’s Dancing Priests posted at CultureShock saying, “on the way back from the famous Shiva Temple we heard loud drums and saw some commotion. We still don’t know exactly what it was, but it was some kind of worship dance for some very small ‘roadside’ temples.”
Guadalajara, Mexico: Mary Jo Manzanares presents Karne Garibaldi: Good Food Fast in Guadalajara, Mexico posted at Traveling with MJ saying ” Good food, fast, at this Guadalajara restaurant with the World’s Record for the fastest service (13 1/2 seconds)”

Denver, Colorado: Byteful Travel presents Denver’s City Park Jazz and The Haunted Fountain posted at Byteful Travel. Saying “if you’re in Denver during the summer and you like jazz, you’d be a goon to miss City Park Jazz. And if you don’t like jazz, you should at least stop by Denver’s City Park at dusk and witness this beautiful prismatic fountain!”
Denver, Colorado: Amy presents Denver Sidewalk Chalk Art in Larimer Square posted at Asthma Mom. Her photos of the sidewalks art are amazing.
Cañon City, Colorado: Kara Williams presents Top Scenic, Family-friendly Attraction in Colorado: Royal Gorge Bridge & Park posted at The Vacation Gals saying “I just could not bring myself to free-fall and swing 1,300 feet above a canyon via the world’s highest Skycoaster at Royal Gorge Bridge & Park last weekend. However, my fearless 10-year-old and her daredevil father waited in line for nearly two hours to do just that.”
Queens, NY: TravelingAnna presents The Art Revolution in Queens, NYC posted at Frill Seeker Diary, saying, “Last weekend in one of the city jaunts I do writing for Time Out New York, I was sent on assignment to check out the “underground art movement” in Queens”
Sweetwater, Texas: Sheila Scarborough presents Your vacation is in your head posted at Perceptive Travel Blog saying “The wind turbine farms near Sweetwater, Texas are as good a place as any for a vacation. Really. It’s all in your head.”
Boston, Massachusetts: Mary T shares A Summer’s Eve at Boston’s Historic Waterfront posted at Travel with Teens and Tweens saying, “Although Boston winters are cold and snowy, a warm summer’s evening visiting the city’s historic waterfront area is a relaxing way to spend time with your teens and tweens.”
Kapoho, Hawaii: Dee Andrews presents Big Island Snorkeling posted at Travel and Travails, saying, “The Big Island of Hawaii offers amazing activities for adventurous kids and families. We went for Volcanoes National Park, but the Kapoho Tide Pools lured us in for some fantastic snorkeling that my tweens didn’t want to leave.”
