Passports with Purpose is a terrific fund raising effort organized by the travel blogger community to benefit communities in developing countries.   Last year  90 bloggers participated and raised almost $30,000 to build a school in rural Cambodia (complete with a school nurse and a kitchen garden that provides each child a daily meal).    In 2010, Passports with Purpose aims to raise $50,000 to build a village, brick by brick, in rural India in partnership with Friends of Lafti

In case you have not heard of them, Land for Tillers’ Freedom (LAFTI) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) serving hundreds of poor villages in India’s southeastern state of Tamilnadu. LAFTI’s mission is “to liberate Dalit (“untouchable”) women and their families from their misery and their servile bondage to the landlords in the Tanjore area, the rice bowl of Tamil Nadu.”    LAFTI’s projects aim to create opportunities for promoting a sense of purpose, power and independence, especially for women. while improving social cohesion and raising social standards.   LAFTI Projects include land distribution and cultivation, housing construction, adult training, youth housing & education, various income-generating activities, domestic animal distribution, and other forms of emergency assistance.

Ride in Style with Groundlink by Making A Donation to LAFTI

From November 15-December 13, 2010 each $10 donation made to LAFTI through the Passports with Purpose web site entitles the reader to an entry in a drawing for the prize of their choice.

We are honored and humbled to be able to contribute to this fundraiser by hosting a great prize, donated by Groundlink, which has taken advantage of innovative internet and mobile technologies to create an independent network of limos and other ground transportation options that can be ordered on demand via the internet or mobile devices.   Groundlink is donating a car service ride of up to $100 in value anywhere in the US.

Please visit the Passports with Purpose donation link to bid for Groundlink.  You might be taking your next ride in style!

Note: PwP will notify prize winners on December 17, 2010.  All funds raised (minus a small Paypal fee) go to building our village in India through Friends of LAFTI, a 501(c)3 organization so donations to PwP are tax deductible.
