Welcome to the April 6, 2011 edition of the Carnival of Cities blog carnival that features links to blog posts about any aspect of one, single city (or fair-sized town). Its is published every two weeks thanks to the efforts of Shelia Scarborough who keeps us organized. She also hosted the previous edition on Shelia’s Guide to the Good Stuff. The next edition on April 20, 2011 will be hosted by Byteful Travel. This is the second time Travel with Teens and Tweens has hosted the Carnival. We enjoy the chance it gives us to check out what lots of other wonderful travel writers are up to. If you would like to host a future Carnival edition on your blog please contact Sheila “at” sheilascarborough “dot” com. Thanks! And now, here we go:
Around the United States
Nicole presents Falls of the Ohio State Park posted at Arrows Sent Forth, saying, “Falls of the Ohio State Park, just across the Ohio River from Louisville, Kentucky, allows you to step back in time hundreds of millions of years while you hunt for ancient fossils.” Great photos! Sarah V. presents Great Beginner Hikes Near San Antonio posted at Wandering Off, saying, “When my daughter and I first started exploring the great outdoors, I was worried that we wouldn’t find trails that fit her skill level. If you’re feeling the same hesitancy, I’m here to reassure you! These four “beginner hikes” can be enjoyed by the whole family.” Jennifer Miner presents Kids Choice Awards Gifting Lounge’s Eco-Friendly Travel Gifts set in posh Berverly Hills. Her article is posted at The Vacation Gals. She says: ”Some eco-friendly travel gifts were found at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards’ pre-show gifting lounge.” Wish we had been invited to that one! Sheila Scarborough presents Standing in tragedy’s shadow at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory posted at Perceptive Travel Blog, saying, “Step back and look up at today’s Brown Building in New York City; one hundred years ago, it was the site of the horrific Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire.” Lisa Konupka presents Mud Bug Fun at Rivergate Festival posted at Down the Road in Tunica MS Blog, saying, “Check out this festival celebrating a Mississippi Delta treat – crawfish” This sure looks like a fun tradition. Emma presents Winter in Chicago? now talk about interesting!!! posted at gohemiantravellers, saying, “Chicago in winter marks the beginning of my solo travel steps. It was a great experience and Chicago truly is a wonderful city.” All the same Emma, we are glad that winter is over!
And Around the World
Anne-Sophie Redisch presents Magical Portmeirion a seaside village in Northern Wales, posted at Sophie’s World, saying, “Portmeirion was conceived by eccentric architect and conservationist Clough Williams-Ellis. Although architect is perhaps not the correct title. After 3 months in architecture school, he decided he had learnt enough. Then, firmly believing a planned community could be beautiful, he began creating Portmeirion. It’s an absolute masterpiece and unlike anything I’ve ever seen.” Zhu presents Hello Bangkok posted at Correr Es Mi Destino, saying, “We are now in Bangkok and we arrived ten minutes ahead of schedule” bragged the flight attendant upon landing in the capital. Gee, I would have rather arrived ten minutes late and avoid the near-death experience when touching down. See, Thai planes don’t land, they descend at full speed and bounce loudly a couple of times on the tarmac before eventually stopping when you start praying aloud to whatever God you are into.” Robin Locker presents Seven Free (or Cheap) Things to do in San Gimignano posted at My Melange. Don’t miss climbing the tower in this ancient Italian city. That concludes this edition. If you have something to share about one aspect of one city or town, we hope you will submit your blog article to the next edition of carnival of cities using our carnival submission form. Past posts and future hosts can be found on our blog carnival index page.
