We’re still in the midst of our Seattle and Alaska vacation trip. You’ll be hearing a lot more about our adventures in the days to come. We’ve all been taking a million photos, but Camera Guy has been knocking himself out with the wildlife and glacier shots. One of the highlights has been a flightseeing/fishing/bear viewing day trip to Wolverine Creek on the western side of the Kenai Peninsula’s Cook Inlet. The salmon were running and the bears were wasting no time filling up after a long winter’s hibernation.

A brown bear arrives for dinner at Wolverine Creek
We spent our day in a small boat anchored just yards from the shore where bears sometimes walked by us just a few feet away en route to the prime feeding spot on the rocks of the creek where the salmon labored to throw themselves upstream.

A Brown Bear takes a look around before settling in to catch dinner
We saw one bear try to carry as many as four fish at once. The birds waited eagerly for leftovers!

This bear couldn't get enough!
At Wolverine Creek we were treated to seeing both black and brown bears in action. Several blacks showed up at the creek during the day. But, in what was our most unexpected bear encounter, we had a close up meeting with a young black bear on the other side of the lake from the creek. We are not sure who was more surprised!

We unexpectedly surprised a young black bear when touring the nearby lake
We could have fished and watched the bears all day but after 6 hours on the lake it was time to catch our floatplane back to civilization. Keep checking back, we’ll be posting lots more info and photos soon about fishing, flightseeing and the rest of our trip!
