Waterfall Hikes in the Mount Washington Valley, NH

The Mount Washington Valley, NH is home to a large number of waterfalls.  Many are accessible via short to moderate hikes via well marked trails.   If you visit the region, be sure to take time to visit at least one of these wonders.   We selected the moderately challenging hike to New Hampshire’s tallest waterfall, 200 foot Arethusa Falls in Crawford Notch State Park.  Since we were there in June the falls were very active although we have been told that later in the summer they can slow to a trickle.      The well used, heavily shaded trail runs 1.3 miles from the upper parking lot to the falls.  It is a gradual uphill hike almost the whole way, except for a steep downhill section in the last quarter mile.  Although we [...]

Teens Love Mount Washington Valley, NH Shopping

As any parent of teenage girls knows, shopping is always at the top of the list when it comes to vacation activities.  Our teen was not disappointed with the range of shopping options available in North Conway and the surrounding towns of New Hampshire’s  Mount Washington Valley.        Shopping in the Mount Washington Valley breaks down into two distinct experiences: The large direct manufacturer and name brand outlets clustered at the southern end of Route 16 in North Conway.  The outlet area is anchored by Settlers’ Green Outlet Village, but is also well supported by large LL Bean, Eastern Mountain Sports and other destination outlets on both sides of the highway.  A number of chain restaurants and hotels round out the outlet area. The small, eclectic shops found in the [...]

Jackson, NH Eagle Mountain House: Dinner with a View

Visiting the Mount Washington Valley, NH with teens and tweens often involves a lot of climbing, hiking, and general racing around.  After a day of ziplines, gondolas, alpine slides, bungee trampolines, climbing walls and hiking both parents and teen appreciated the opportunity to slow down and savour the historic charms of the almost century-old  93-room Eagle Mountain House grand hotel in Jackson, NH.    Located halfway between bustling North Conway and Mount Washington, the town of Jackson hearkens back to a more elegant era of grand hotels, golf courses and scenic views.  It is easy to drive past Jackson on your way up and down busy Route 16, but whether you are stopping to visit the lovely Jackson Falls, grab lunch or dinner at one of the many [...]

Monkey Trunks High Ropes Course is a Hit with Teens

As part of our whirlwind family with teens review weekend in the Mount Washington Valley of New Hampshire, we had the good fortune to spend a few hours at Monkey Trunks on Route 16 in Chocorua, NH.  If you’ve got teens or tweens (or moms and dads) that are looking for a challenge and an adrenaline rush this is the place to go.  Located about a half hour drive south of North Conway, Monkey Trunks will test your limits in a safe, supervised and incredibly fun setting.  Our teen gave it an A+ and says she has to go back!       Set on a former farm, the site features the amazing 3-level 25 foot tall Discovery high ropes course, complete with zip line and 40-foot drop zone.   Nearby, the 65 foot high Jungle [...]
